I've had my Vivo V40 Pro for about 1 year and 8 months. On Android 14 (Funtouch OS, out of the box), it worked great.

The ZuPick verdict
The vivo V40 Pro 5G gets a lot right: a bright sharp display, strong all-round cameras, fast performance, a large battery and proper water resistance. Its weaker long-term software support, lack of NFC and missing wireless charging are the main trade-offs against the best rivals in this price range.

Pros & cons
The 1260x2800 AMOLED panel is sharper than plain Full HD rivals, and 4500 nits peak brightness helps a lot outdoors. The 120 Hz refresh rate also keeps scrolling and animations smooth.
You get a rare triple 50 MP setup with ultrawide and telephoto coverage, plus a 50 MP front camera. That gives this phone more shooting flexibility than many rivals that stop at a main camera and ultrawide.
The 5500 mAh battery is larger than many premium phones, and 80W charging is quick enough to make top-ups easy. Battery life of 14h 36m is comfortably solid for daily use.
It scores about 1.5 million on AnTuTu, which is comfortably above the middle of this price range. Day-to-day use feels fast, and demanding games should run well too.
IP68 and IP69 protection is a real plus at this price. It adds peace of mind against dust, rain and accidental water exposure.
NFC is expected in this price range for tap-to-pay and quick pairing. Its absence stands out more here than it would on a cheaper phone.
Two Android version updates is weak for a phone this expensive. Buyers planning to keep it for four years or more will get less long-term software support than key rivals.
The telephoto camera is useful, but 2x optical zoom is modest in a segment where some rivals stretch to 3x or even 5x. It helps with portraits more than true long-range shots.
Charging is fast over a cable, but this is still a cable-only phone. Several alternatives in this bracket offer the convenience of wireless charging.
What owners say
From RedditAfter updating to Android 15: noticeable overheating during daytime use (it wasn't an issue before) and slightly reduced battery life.
After updating to Android 16 (Origin OS): things got worse. Overheating is significantly more frequent, battery life has dropped drastically, and while Origin OS looks/feels nicer than Funtouch OS, the camera quality (the phone's main selling point) has noticeably degraded
Come to 2024, I bought V40 Pro on the launch day. It had great reviews, had huge upgrades over V30 (waterproofing and stereo speakers). I was so excited about it.
On day one itself, I found the main camera to be underwhelming. There is just a haze and low light about it. It should have been a vibrant, fast focusing, piece of art.
I found that the other cameras are still quite good. But they also suffer from lag and slow focusing.
The issues have worsened after the update to Android 15. Now the phone is slow to respond. Camera is even more slow. Sometimes even basic things (like show all apps) fails to work.
V regular comes with UFS 2.2, while V pro isn't exactly value for money but it's not bad either, you get a good main+ telephone+ ultrawide and selfie camera is pretty good as well, V40 pro even has dimensity 9200+ which is as good as 8 gen 2, LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.1, should have been 4.0 though
