The phone works fine but there are some lags and jitters while opening or closing any app. The camera lag is also quite noticeable. It could be because of the new snapdragon 4 gen 2.

Is the Redmi 12 5G worth buying at ₹29,999?
At ₹29,999 the Redmi 12 5G is one to skip, scoring 2.9 out of 5 against other phones at this price. It is strongest on performance and weakest on battery. We have seen it as low as ₹10,971.
The ZuPick verdict
The REDMI 12 5G combines dependable endurance, a sharp large screen and 5G, but its slow charging, low brightness, limited base memory and basic cameras create an uneven package.

Pros & cons
The large 6.79-inch, 1080x2460 display keeps text and videos crisp. Its 90 Hz refresh rate also makes scrolling smoother than a basic 60 Hz screen.
5G support gives it modern network compatibility. UFS 2.2 storage helps apps install and open more quickly than phones using slower eMMC storage.
The 5000 mAh battery lasted just over 18 hours in testing, making a full day of calls, browsing and video easy to manage.
Stereo speakers, a headphone jack, expandable storage and IP53 splash resistance add practical convenience for daily use.
The 18W charging speed is modest for ₹14,499. A full top-up takes around 1 hour 45 minutes, so short charging breaks deliver limited gains.
Brightness reaches 550 nits, which can make the screen harder to read under direct sunlight. The LCD panel also lacks the contrast and deep blacks of an AMOLED display.
The 4 GB configuration can reload apps during heavier multitasking. Casual games are manageable, but demanding titles will need reduced settings.
The 50 MP main camera is best suited to daylight photography, while the 8 MP selfie camera is modest. Video stops at 1080p and 30 fps, limiting detail and smoothness.
What owners say
From RedditIt is an okayish phone. But to incorporate 5G, companies are compromising on other aspects a lot. MIUI 14 is quite buggy, snapdragon 4 gen 2 lacks optimization, only an 18W charger, base variant has only 4GB ram.
Yeah, I have used it for 1 day for review purposes it is good. Design is mind-blowing Performace is great Camera is average not good (Portrait mode is nice) The battery is also nice
Yess I've the same issue. My first phone redmi note 6 pro was a gem even today it works smoothly but currently I have redmi 12 5g and it hangs too much and yeah as you said just by opening camera it stutters so much.
One more problem is that even if I close Reddit or any app for 1 min it refreshes the feed completely and the post or reel I was watching had gone
Yess i face this issue too and it is annoying af Have you found any solution?
It's a good looking low end device, but that's all. Memory extension is useless; it's not for hardcore gamers ; brightness & volume is low end device quality. It was a mistake to buy this phone.
Mine is the India variant of the software. And does this MIUI version cause a hell of a lot of battery drain. This is not me observing this, its by majorly everyone who got this device with MIUI 14 factory installed.
battery drain? Doesn't do that on mine. I'm on EU software. And the previous update that updated it to android 13 fixed a tiny "thing" or two. Haven't noticed a true "bug".
For some mysterious reason, Redmi 12 5G, all up to date, became eventually slow and choppy and to a point it became unusable, even launching dialer app. It is abnormally laggy.
