Day one Pixel 8 Pro owner here. Thought I’d share my experience, after almost 8 months of ownership.

The ZuPick verdict
The Pixel 8 Pro gets the flagship essentials right and stands out for long software support, a bright display and a genuinely useful 5x zoom camera. The trade-off is that performance and charging are not as strong as several rivals at similar money.

Pros & cons
The 5x optical telephoto is a real flagship feature, not a token camera add-on. It gives you much better reach for portraits, events and distant subjects than the 3x zoom many rivals stop at.
Seven years of OS updates is one of the best promises you can get on any phone. That matters at this price because it keeps the phone secure and current for far longer than most Android alternatives.
The 6.7-inch OLED panel runs at 120 Hz and reaches 2400 nits peak brightness. It feels smooth in daily use and stays comfortable to read outdoors.
You get IP68 water resistance, wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, stereo speakers and Wi-Fi 7. Nothing important feels stripped out for the price.
It scores about 963,000 on AnTuTu, which is low for this price. Everyday use is still smooth, but buyers focused on gaming or long-term speed will find stronger options nearby.
30W charging is behind what many premium Android phones offer. A full top-up takes noticeably longer than the faster-charging rivals in this range.
4K recording is fine for most people, but many phones at this level offer 4K60 or even 8K. If video capture is a priority, this is one of the clearer compromises.
UFS 3.1 storage is still quick in daily use, but the fastest flagships now move to newer storage standards. App installs and large file handling are not as class-leading as the price suggests.
What owners say
From RedditThe Battery life on the device was mediocre or subpar in the first few days. I don't know if it was the very old Oppo 30W charger I was using or just how the phone normally works out of the box.
The battery life is terrible, barely lasting a day even with battery saver on.
My wife says calls sometimes go straight to voicemail, meaning she literally cannot reach me in the event of an emergency. And when I can receive calls, the call quality is sometimes so bad that I can barely understand what she's saying.
Battery life was a concern after the first 2 days of using the phone. The phone quickly learned my habits and now battery life for me is better than my iPhone 12 pro.
No real issues with mine. I came from an iPhone 14 pro max and nothing really compared to that battery wise but I can use this all day and have some charge left at the end of the day which does me. No issues with reception either
Phenomenal camera with a great UI and the pixel 8 (I have 8p) feels like the most solid and quality built phone Google has delivered yet. In terms of processor and battery it may fall behind some competition, but my P8P charges in like 30min and lasts me all day.
I own the pro version and I can confirm that the battery is pretty decent. It was terrible in the beginning but after the November update it has been really good. Also the camera is better than anything I've ever seen and I spend a lot of time on the magic editor lol.
