The ZuPick verdict
The iQOO 9 5G still offers smooth AMOLED viewing and remarkably fast charging, but it gives up too much performance, display quality, battery convenience and camera capability against similarly priced alternatives.

Pros & cons
The 120W charger can refill the battery in around 18 minutes. Short charging stops are enough to recover several hours of use.
The 120 Hz AMOLED display makes scrolling and animations feel fluid. HDR10+ support also benefits compatible films and shows.
The dedicated 2x optical zoom is useful for portraits, while the 13 MP ultrawide fits more into the frame. Optical stabilisation helps keep handheld photos steadier.
Its benchmark result is well behind what many similarly priced phones now achieve. The 12 GB RAM and fast storage help daily use, but demanding games have stronger alternatives.
The 1080x2376 resolution and 1200-nit peak brightness are modest for this money. Rivals increasingly offer sharper 1.5K panels with much better outdoor visibility.
The 4350 mAh battery is smaller than buyers commonly get at this price. There is no wireless charging, making the excellent wired speed its main advantage.
The 2x optical zoom has less reach than the 3x and 5x cameras offered by stronger alternatives. Video also stops at 4K30 rather than the smoother 4K60 common in premium phones.
